What is Phospho Tungstic Acid LR & AR Grade?

The abbreviation "AR" means "Analytical Reagent," and it is safe to use for research operations requiring precision, while “LR” Grade chemicals are commonly called UNILAB and are used primarily for educational or teaching labs. Purity levels are high.

Phosphtungstic Acid is an inorganic compound appearing to be yellow green crystalline powder with the melting point of about 90 degree celsius. It is a heteropoly acid which forms hydrates. Phosphotungstic acid (PTA) or tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) is odorless and soluble in water. It is not especially toxic, but can result into mild acidic irritation. PTA plays an important role as a biological staining agent.

This compound is also used for precipitation of various dyes under controlled conditions. It is known as the universal precipitant for polar proteins hence is

used in certain analytical procedures in this sector. It is used in histological staining of specimen cells with Hematoxylin and PTAH.
