Tert-butyl choloacetate also know as t-butyl acetate or TBAc is flammable liquid. It smells like blueberry or like camphor and is colourless.
Tert-butyl chloroacetate is manufactured from acetic acid and isobutylene. Tert-butyl chloroacetate is produced in a pressure vessel by reaction of chloroacetic acid with isobutene in the absence of solvent and catalyst at around 80 to 110 degree Celsius under 3-12 bar pressure that is self-generated for a period of 4 to 8 hours. After which the pressure vessel is cooled down and the cold mixture is removed from the vessel. Lastly the cold mixture is obtained by distillation under reduced pressure before neutralising.
Tert – Butyl Chloroacetate is moisture sensitive liquid. It is advised to store it in a tightly closed container and it should be carefully resealed once open. To prevent leakage make sure to keep the container upright. It is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and strong bases.
