A white colorless liquid fine chemical that mainly contains methanol; a type of alcohol and HCl; a strong acid. Methanolic HCl (Hydrochloric Acid in methanol) is distinctly used for the preparation of methyl esters of short chain (volatile) fatty acids. Methanolic acid is used at a range of normalities; mild to strong. The adequate concentration is decided based on the esterification that has to be done. 

The process of esterification of fatty acids through methanolic HCl takes place by heating with anhydrous alcohol in presence of an acidic catalyst (e.g: HCl) in a vessel. The products obtained can easily be separated and collected at the end of the reaction. Methanolic HCl is widely synthesized commercially.
